Car Air Conditioning Systems work quite simply like your fridge freezer at home.

The following components make up the AIr Conditioning System

  • Condenser
  • Receiver
  • Dryer
  • Compressor
  • Expansion Valve
  • Evaporator

The air condtioning system not only cools your car but also does the following:-

Removes dust and particles from the interior of your car, as they are attracted to the Evaporator (Cooling radiator) and are washed away as the moisture condensers on the Evaporator. So this is great for asthma or allergy sufferers.

As it removes moisture this stops your windows steaming up in winter, and makes the car feel more comfortable.

Using your air condtioning system keeps it working efficiently, if you do not use it the seals may dry out and cause leaks. And, any moisture trapped in the system can cause acid to attack the components, so use it regularly to keep it working and prevent garage bills!

The Refrigerant enters the compressor as a vapour and is compressed by the compressor, where the pressure increases and it enters the condenser at the front of your car (looks like a radiator) where it is collected and it turns into a liquid.

The liquid refrigerant then enters the evaporator under pressure (Look like a radiator, that is hidden behind the dashboard). It then turns back into a vapour, and due to the laws of physics it supercools, and warm air from the interior of the car is blown over the evaporator, which extracts the heat into the refrigerant, It then enters the compressor again and keeps repeating the cycle.
