Garage Capors Stories

We recently had a customer come to us with a frustrating situation. She had just paid a hefty £140 for an air conditioning regas at a major car servicing center, only to find that her AC was still blowing hot air. Feeling cheated and understandably upset, she decided to seek a second opinion. That's where we came in.

Upon inspecting her vehicle, we were shocked to discover that the system contained a mere 60 grams of refrigerant. For context, her car requires approximately 500 grams of R1234yf refrigerant for optimal cooling. This meant that the previous service center had barely filled her system, despite charging her the full price!

To ensure there wasn't an underlying issue, we performed a thorough leak test, but found no signs of any leaks. We then proceeded to regas her system with the correct amount of refrigerant, and voilà! The air conditioning was blowing ice cold as it should.

This incident raises serious concerns about the quality of service and customer care provided by some major car servicing centers. It's unacceptable to charge a customer full price for a service that was clearly not performed correctly.

We advised our customer to return to the original service center and demand a full refund. We also encouraged her to share her experience with others, to prevent them from falling victim to similar malpractice.

Here are some key takeaways from this experience:

  • Don't hesitate to get a second opinion. If you feel something isn't right with your car, trust your gut and seek advice from another mechanic.

  • Choose reputable service centers.  Do your research and select a service center with a proven track record of quality service and customer satisfaction.

  • Be aware of your rights as a consumer.  If you've been charged for a service that wasn't delivered, don't be afraid to demand a refund.

We hope this blog post helps raise awareness about the importance of choosing trustworthy service providers and advocating for yourself as a consumer. If you have any questions or concerns about your car's air conditioning system, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're always happy to help!
